Meet the team behind the Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas Training Institute.

  • Eric Coberley

    Director of the Training Institute

    Eric Coberley has served in law enforcement since 2005, holding a variety of key roles including Patrol Officer/Deputy, Field Training Officer, and Patrol Supervisor. In 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Division at the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office, where he served until January 2017. During this time, he also chaired the Cooke County Child Fatality Review Team and led investigations spanning property crimes to crimes against persons and children. Coberley continues to serve as a Reserve Investigator with the Cooke County District Attorney’s Office. He is a certified TCOLE Instructor and Firearms Instructor.

    In January 2017, Coberley transitioned to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services as a Special Investigator. He worked within a specialized CPS unit focusing on child death investigations, sexual abuse, serious injuries, and trafficking. In 2021, he was appointed to the Special Investigations Training Committee and became the Training Coordinator for DFPS Regions 3 and 4. His outstanding service was recognized with the 2022 Regional Director’s Award of Excellence, and he has presented investigative findings at multiple statewide conferences.

    Currently, Coberley serves as the Director of the Training Institute at the Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas, where he leads training initiatives for multidisciplinary professionals including law enforcement, DFPS staff, advocacy center employees, and other key stakeholders. The Center partners with over 60 agencies across three counties in North Texas. Coberley also chairs the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee for North Central Texas College.

  • David Jones

    Training Coordinator

    David Jones is an accomplished leader with extensive experience in partner relations, child protection investigations, public safety, and operational management. With over two decades of progressive responsibility across government, nonprofit, and private-sector environments, he is known for strengthening partnerships, elevating team performance, and driving strategic improvements.

    David currently serves as the Training Coordinator for the Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas, where he supports the development and management of partnerships with law enforcement, CPS, healthcare providers, schools, and other community agencies. His work ensures that cross-agency teams remain aligned, informed, and equipped to serve the community effectively.

    Previously, David worked as a Special Investigator with the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services, conducting complex investigations of child abuse and neglect. He served as a consultant and trainer in forensic interviewing, supported staff development, and acted as Program Director when needed. His ability to accurately assess risk, manage sensitive cases, and guide investigative teams solidified his reputation as a trusted expert in the field.

    Before transitioning to civilian investigative work, David spent over a decade in law enforcement as a Peace Officer, C.I.D. Detective, and K-9 Officer. He led complex criminal investigations, trained new officers as a TCOLE-certified instructor, and collaborated across agencies to enhance public safety. His law enforcement career earned recognition from leadership and specialized certifications in human trafficking, crisis response, crime scene investigation, and advanced interrogation.

    David holds advanced law enforcement certifications through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and continues to apply his deep expertise in investigations, leadership, and multi-agency coordination to strengthen community partnerships and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.
